Electricity
Utility costs, especially the electricity bills, usually take up a huge part in your monthly household budget. And you might have noticed that your utility cost is much higher than usual.
If you’re looking for ways to save energy and lessen your electricity consumption, here are a few simple tips that won’t take up too much of your time:
Switch off appliances at the wall instead of leaving them on standby. This could potentially save you £50!
Use energy-saving bulbs and remember to switch off lights when you’re not using them. You could save around £37 a year!
When buying new appliances, look for ones with a high-energy efficiency rating. Check out the energy rating labels to guide you.
Heating
Let’s keep our house warm without breaking the bank! Here are some tips to save money on heating:
- Turn down the thermostat by just 1 degree and you could save £80 a year!
- Make sure your radiators have enough space to heat up the rooms. Try rearranging your furniture to help the heat circulate better.
- Close your curtains to keep the heat inside your home.
- Use towels to block any drafts under doors.
- For a simple way to double glaze your windows, cover them with cling film and bubble wrap.
- Remember not to block any openings in your home that are meant for ventilation.
- Wash your clothes at 30°C or cooler. This helps keep warm air in and reduces the energy needed to heat your home.

- Avoid leaving the hot water tap on for a long time.
- Try to limit the use of the tumble dryer whenever you can.
